Blueboys swept by Cornell in doubleheader

The Illinois College baseball team was swept in a doubleheader at Cornell College on Saturday, losing by scores of 3-1 and 6-5, in Mount Vernon, Iowa.

All of the runs in the first game were scored in the first inning, as the Blueboys scratched out one run in the top of the inning before the Rams scored three in the bottom of the frame. Josh Krumwiede collected two hits and drove in the Blueboys' lone run. T.J. Albers went the distance, allowing the three runs, only one of which was earned. He allowed six hits and struck out two.

Cornell won the second game with a two-out sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth inning. Matthew Pardo, Matt Jagodzinski, Austin Peck and Albers had two hits apiece. Albers and Peck drove in two runs each. Nick Dalfonso stole three bases. Nick Visconti took the pitching loss after allowing three runs (two earned) in 3 1/3 innings of relief. Starter D.J. Davis allowed three runs over 5 1/3 innings of work.

The Blueboys fell to 18-15 overall and 7-7 in Midwest Conference South Division play. They play another doubleheader at Cornell on Sunday. The start time has been pushed up to 9 a.m. due to expected inclement weather.
