Blueboys split with Knox, finish weekend series 3-1 against Prairie Fire

The Illinois College baseball team rallied for a 12-11 win in extra innings before suffering a 12-1 defeat against Knox College on Sunday, as the Blueboys split a doubleheader and finished the weekend series with a 3-1 record against the Prairie Fire.

Matt Jagodzinski had a two-out run-scoring single in the bottom of the ninth inning of the first game to force extra innings, and Austin Dormire had a walk-off RBI single in the 11th to send the Blueboys to victory. Nick Dalfonso, Josh Krumwiede and Dormire had three hits each in the opener. Dormire drove in three runs, while Matthew Pardo, Dalton Kerans and Jagodzinski drove in two runs apiece. Kerans homered for the second time in as many days.

Casey Fair earned the pitching win in relief after throwing two scoreless innings. Starter D.J. Davis allowed four runs over 2 2/3 innings. Chris Irvin allowed five runs (two earned) over the next inning, before Dylan Sunderland and Zac Schopp allowed one run each over the next 5 1/3 innings.

Nick Visconti had two hits in the nightcap, providing the Blueboys' lone run with a solo home run. Nick Duke suffered the pitching loss after allowing six runs (three earned) over 5 1/3 innings.

The Blueboys are now 16-10 overall and 5-3 in Midwest Conference South Division play. They are back in action next weekend, hosting doubleheaders with Grinnell College at Sacred Heart-Griffin High School, on Saturday and Sunday.
