Blueboys settle for 10-0 win, one out short of no-hitter

The Illinois College baseball team was one out away from throwing a combined no-hitter against Robert Morris University Springfield on Tuesday, but settled instead for a one-hit shutout as the Blueboys posted a 10-0 win over the Eagles in seven innings.

Robert Morris' Ryan Kittell broke up the no-hitter with two outs in the top of the seventh with a single. Illinois College starter Chris Irvin had allowed just two walks over the first four innings before Clayton Carr and Andy McCarty each pitched a perfect inning. Jake Horve allowed one walk and Kittell's hit in the seventh, but still posted a scoreless inning to preserve the shutout.

Austin Dormire tallied two hits to lead the Blueboy bats. Matthew Pardo drove in two runs and Josh Krumwiede scored three runs.

The Blueboys improved to 11-6 with the win. They are back in action on Saturday against Monmouth College at Eisenhower Park in Springfield. The doubleheader begins at 12 p.m.

The Blueboys' doubleheader scheduled to be played on Friday at Monmouth College has been moved to Sunday, due to expected inclement weather. Sunday's games will be played at Monmouth and will begin at 12 p.m.
