Nick Dalfonso was a perfect 5-for-5 at the plate but it wasn't enough as the Illinois College baseball team suffered a 7-3 loss to Ohio Northern University on Tuesday at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic in Fort Myers, Florida.
Dalfonso tied an Illinois College single-game record with the five hits, which included three singles, a double and a triple. He drove in a run, scored a run and stole one base in the loss.
Adam Hamerlinck had two hits and drove in a run.
Matthew Pardo drove in a run, and
Jonathan Schrage and
Austin Dormire each scored a run.
Chris Irvin took the loss after allowing six runs (four earned) over the first five innings.
Andy McCarty allowed one run over the next two innings before
Dylan Sunderland pitched a scoreless eighth inning.
The Blueboys fell to 3-2 with the loss. They play a doubleheader with Newbury College on Wednesday.
