Bluboys swept by Knox in final home games of 2013

The Illinois College baseball team was swept by Knox College in a doubleheader at Lenz Field on Thursday. The Blueboys lost the opener, 4-2, before dropping the second game, 6-5 in 11 innings.

Dave Dalfonso tallied four of the Blueboys' 10 hits in the opener. T.J. Albers and Brett Leischner had one RBI each. David Pardo suffered the pitching loss, his first of the season, after allowing two runs over 6 1/3 innings. Nick Duke allowed two runs over one inning before John Mason finished up with 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief.

Albers sent the second game into extra innings with a game-tying home run in the bottom of the ninth inning, but Knox scored three runs in the top of the 11th inning to go ahead for good. The Blueboys rallied in the bottom of the frame, but came up one run short.

Adam Hamerlinck, Matthew Pardo, Albers and Leischner had two hits each in the second game. Matthew Pardo drove in two runs. Knox spoiled a solid outing from IC starter Brian Davenport, who allowed three runs over 10 innings of work. The 10-inning outing tied an IC record for innings pitched in a single game. Matt Schneider took the loss after allowing three runs in one inning of relief work.

The Blueboys fell to 13-17 overall and 7-7 in Midwest Conference South Division play. The Blueboys head to Knox for a doubleheader on Saturday.
