The Illinois College softball team split a Midwest Conference South Division doubleheader at Monmouth College on Saturday afternoon in Monmouth. The Lady Blues lost the opener, 6-2, but won the nightcap, 7-4.
The Lady Blues were limited to four hits in the opener. Brittany Fanella hit her fifth home run of the season, a two-run shot in the second inning.
Alese Speckhart took the pitching loss, allowing five runs (four earned) over 1 2/3 innings. Amanda Price took over from there, allowing just one run the rest of the way.
Paige Cullison and
Courtney Kwasnitza tallied three hits each in the second game. Cullison hit a three-run home run and finished the day with four RBIs and two runs scored. Abby Campbell had two hits and scored two runs. Price earned the pitching win in relief of starter Leah Shumaker, who allowed four runs over the first four innings. Price pitched three scoreless innings to finish off the win.
Illinois College is now 9-10 overall and 1-3 in Midwest Conference South Division play.
