The Illinois College baseball team split a doubleheader at Monmouth College on Saturday, less than 24 hours after sweeping a doubleheader against the Fighting Scots in Jacksonville. IC lost the first game Saturday, 6-5, before bouncing back with an 8-7 win in the second game.
Nick Dalfonso, Ben Heinemann,
T.J. Albers and Matthew Pardo had two hits each in the opener.
Nick Dalfonso scored two runs. Zack Hanlon suffered the pitching loss in the opener as Monmouth rallied for three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Nate Jones allowed three runs on four hits and four walks as IC's starter; he struck out three.
Matt Schneider pitched one scoreless inning of relief.
T.J. Albers had two home runs and five RBIs in the second game.
Dave Dalfonso and
Matt Jagodzinski had three hits each, while Heinemann added two hits and
Nick Dalfonso scored three runs.
Ian Richardson was the winning pitcher after allowing six runs (two earned) over 5 1/3 innings. John Mason recorded two outs and Nick Kennedy allowed one run in an inning of work before
Matt Schneider pitched two scoreless innings for his first save of the season.
Illinois College is now 8-9 overall and 3-1 in Midwest Conference South Division play.
