Illinois College swept both games of a doubleheader with Cornell College on Friday in Jacksonville, opening a key Midwest Conference South Division four-game series with a pair of wins. The Blueboys won the games by scores of 13-8 and 9-8.
Brett Leischner, Matthew Pardo and
Nick Dalfonso homered in an eight-run seventh inning in the first game.
Zac Schopp also homered for the Blueboys in the fourth inning. Matthew Pardo led the team with four hits and three RBIs.
Dave Dalfonso tallied three hits. David Pardo earned the pitching win after allowing six runs over eight innings of work, while striking out six batters.
Matt Schneider finished off the win.
The Blueboys used another big seventh inning to win the second game, plating four runs in the frame to take the lead for good.
Dave Dalfonso tallied three hits and scored three runs. Ben Heinemann and Leischner drove in two runs each.
Nick Visconti and Leischner recorded two hits apiece.
Brian Davenport was the winner after allowing six runs over 6 1/3 innings of work. John Mason, Schneider and Visconti all worked in relief, and Visconti picked up his first save of the year after recording the final four outs.
The Blueboys improved to 13-13 overall and 6-3 in the Midwest Conference's South Division with the wins. The Blueboys host another doubleheader with Cornell on Saturday, beginning at 11 a.m.
