The Illinois College softball team swept both games of a doubleheader against Grinnell College in Jacksonville on Saturday, winning by scores of 11-1 and 7-1. The game's were Illinois College's first at home this year.
Paige Cullison had two hits and five RBIs in the opener, including a triple and a three-run home run.
Courtney Kwasnitza tallied two hits, scored two runs and stole a base. Brittany Fanella,
Anna Jacobs,
Paige Meyer and
Emily Hawkins all plated runs in the win, while
Alese Speckhart went the distance in winning her seventh game of the season. Speckhart allowed just three hits and one unearned run in the win.
Meyer drove in three runs in the second game, while Cullison and Speckhart collected two hits apiece.
Jaci Forsythe drove in two runs and scored two more. Fanella tallied another RBI in the second game. Leah Shumaker was the winning pitcher for IC, allowing just one hit and one run over seven innings. She walked two and struck out 10.
The Lady Blues improved to 17-11 overall with the win. They are 3-3 against Midwest Conference South Division competition this year. They travel to Lake Forest College on Sunday.
