The Illinois College softball team won its final two games of the Midwest Conference Classic to finish the tournament with a perfect 5-0 record on Sunday in East Peoria. The Lady Blues beat Lawrence University, 4-1, and Carroll University, 8-2, to finish the tournament as the only undefeated team.
"The Midwest Conference Classic is a great experience. It's a tough three days of conference play," said Illinois College head softball coach
Meghan Roman. "It feels great to play the way we did this weekend. I'm really proud of this team. To be the only team to go undefeated here is a testament to just how hard these girls have worked."
Paige Cullison had a two-run home run in the opener, while Abby Campbell tallied two hits, one of which was a double.
Alese Speckhart earned the pitching win, allowing just one run over seven innings of work.
Brittany Fanella had three hits and three RBIs, including a two-run home run, in the second game. Speckhart had two hits, including a solo homer, while Cullison added two hits and two runs scored. Leah Shumaker was the winner in the second game, allowing just two runs over seven innings.
The Lady Blues improved to 15-11 with the wins.
