Lady Blues split pair in final day at Rebel Spring Games

The Illinois College softball team lost to Simpson College, 12-4, but rebounded with a 6-5 win over Thomas More College to finish off an eight-game stand at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Florida, on Thursday.

Paige Meyer hit a three-run home run for the Lady Blues in the loss to Simpson. Paige Cullison and Anna Jacobs had two hits and one stolen base apiece. Alese Speckhart took the pitching loss after allowing eight runs over 1 2/3 innings of work. Leah Shumaker allowed four runs over three innings of relief work.

Courtney Kwasnitza, Jaci Forsythe and Cullison had two hits each in the win over Thomas More. All three players had one double, and Kwasnitza's two-run double helped key a five-run fourth inning. Brittany Fanella, Abby Campbell, Cullison and Forsythe all drove in one run each.

Shumaker earned the pitching win in the second game, allowing five runs over five innings of work. Amanda Price earned the save with two scoreless innings of relief.

The Lady Blues finished the trip at 3-5.
