The Illinois College baseball team rallied for three runs in the ninth inning but it was one run too few as the Blueboys lost to Central College, 6-5, in their spring trip finale Thursday at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic in Ft. Myers, Florida.
Dave Dalfonso hit a three-run home run in the top of the ninth to get Illinois College back within a run, but the Blueboys left the tying run on third base to end the game.
Adam Hamerlinck had three hits and a run scored for the Blueboys. Matthew Pardo had two hits and two runs. Austin Peck drove in a pair of runs.
Nate Jones took the pitching loss after allowing two runs on six hits over three innings. David Pardo allowed four runs (three earned) over three innings of relief work.
Brian Davenport pitched two scoreless innings to finish the game for IC.
Illinois College finished its spring trip with a 3-5 record. The Blueboys return to action on March 16 when they host Eureka College.
