The Illinois College baseball team split a doubleheader with Finlandia University Wednesday at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic in Ft. Myers, Florida. The Blueboys won the opener, 6-2, but lost the nightcap, 7-6.
T.J. Albers had two hits, including a triple, to go with two runs and two RBIs in the opener.
Dave Dalfonso reached base three times and scored two runs. Austin Peck had a pair of RBIs. Ben Heinemann and
Nick Dalfonso stole two bases apiece.
Brett Leischner and Heinemann each drove in a run.
Starter D.J. Davis earned the pitching win, allowing just one hit and two runs over four innings. He walked five and struck out seven. Chris Irvin,
Clayton Carr and John Fisher each pitched a scoreless inning of relief to finish off the win.
Heinemann had two hits, including a triple, two runs and an RBI in the second game.
Spencer Wilson drove in a pair of runs and
Dave Dalfonso scored two runs.
Irvin took the pitching loss in the second game after allowing a two-out walkoff single to Finlandia in the bottom of the seventh inning. Starter
Nick Visconti allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits in 2 1/3 innings.
Scott Steckel pitched two-thirds of an inning of scoreless relief.
Matt Schneider allowed two runs (one earned) over three innings of relief work.
The Blueboys, now 3-4, finish play in Ft. Myers Thursday with a single game against Central College.
