The Illinois College softball team swept both games of a doubleheader at the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on Saturday in Terre Haute, Indiana. The Lady Blues won by scores of 5-2 and 5-0.
Courtney Kwasnitza had three hits, including a home run and a double, in the opener.
Paige Cullison and
Alese Speckhart had two hits each, one of which was a double. Brittany Fanella drove in a pair of runs, while
Emily Hawkins and Kwasnitza plated one run each.
Speckhart earned the pitching win in the opener, limiting the Fighting Engineers to two runs on seven hits. She walked none and struck out two.
Speckhart added three more hits in the second game, one of which was a solo home run.
Paige Meyer also homered for the Lady Blues, while Kwasnitza collected a pair of hits and scored two runs.
Betsy Wagers and
Anna Jacobs drove in single runs for the Lady Blues.
Leah Shumaker earned the pitching win in the nightcap, allowing just six hits and two walks, while striking out nine, in the shutout.
The Lady Blues improved to 5-5 with the sweep. They travel to Blackburn College for a doubleheader on Wednesday.
