The Illinois College baseball team was never able to recover from a four-run outburst in the first inning from Eureka College on Saturday as the Blueboys dropped a 4-3 decision to the Red Devils at Lenz Field in Jacksonville.
Eureka tallied all four of its runs in the first inning, none of which were earned runs. The Blueboys got one back in the bottom of the frame when

Dave Dalfonso on an RBI groundout, before plating single runs in the seventh and ninth innings, respectively.
Nick Dalfonso hit an RBI double in the seventh and drove in another run on a groundout in the ninth.
Nick Dalfonso tallied two of Illinois College's three hits, while also stealing three bases. Matthew Pardo tallied IC's only other hit.
Nate Jones took the pitching loss for the Blueboys, allowing seven hits and four runs (none earned) over 5 2/3 innings. He walked two and fanned four. Zack Hanlon followed with two scoreless innings of relief, during which he struck out five batters.
Ian Richardson and John Mason pitched 2/3 innings of scoreless relief each to close out the game. Mason struck out batters to record the final two Eureka outs.
The Blueboys fell to 3-6 with the loss. They return to action Tuesday with a 3 p.m. game against Principia College at Lenz Field.
