Illinois College's
Terry Davis has been named Midwest Conference South Division Co-Player of the Year following a record-setting 2012 season.
Davis, a senior from Bloomington, batted .453 with 12 doubles, 11 home runs, 39 runs and 48 RBIs. He posted an on-base percentage of .514 and a slugging percentage of .872.
“I just had a plan to work hard every day and do everything I could to get better,” Davis said. “I figured if I put in the time, it would pay off – and it did.”
Davis broke Illinois College single-season records for RBIs, hits (53) and total bases (102). He matched the school record for home runs. He finished the 2012 season second in NCAA Division III in slugging percentage, and was third in both home runs per game and RBIs per game. He ranked seventh overall in both batting average and home runs.
“Terry dedicated himself from the day our season ended last year to making himself the player he was this year,” Head Coach
Jay Eckhouse said. “He did exactly what he set out to do, having an outstanding year for us, offensively and defensively.”
Davis was solid in the field in 2012, committing just two errors as Illinois College's everyday center fielder. He recorded 75 putouts and provided a pair of outfield assists. He was a four-time MWC Performer of the Week selection this spring.
Davis said earning Player of the Year status was a good way to end his collegiate career.
“It's just a way to show that hard work pays off. I wasn't the only one –
Nate Jones put in a ton of work and he had a great year,” Davis said, referring to his all-conference teammate. “I just hope it rubs off on other people.”
