Lady Blues Sweep Final Day in Florida

CLEARMONT, Fla. – The Illinois College softball team made the most of its final day of the annual Florida trip Friday at the Legends Way Complex, rolling to victories in both contests.

IC opened the day by blasting Simmons, 10-2, before stopping Alvernia, 8-0, in the nightcap. Both contests were five innings due to the run rule.

The Lady Blues are now 8-6 on the season.

Game 1: IC 10 Simmons 2 (5 innings)
IC opened the scoring in the top of the first inning with a Shelby Seiler RBI triple.  Simmons came back with two runs of their own in the bottom of the first before IC roared back with eight unanswered scores.

The onslaught began in the second inning when Ezzy Mauermann stole home to tie the game. IC exploded for three runs in the third, thanks to a three-run home run by Megan Doolittle.

The Lady Blues closed out the scoring with a five-spot in the fourth. Alyssa Teixeira smacked a two-run single before Lilly Siller stroked a three-run single to push the advantage to 10-2.

Mauermann and Siller each had three hits for IC, while Siller and Doolittle led the RBI parade with three each.

In the circle, Avery Fritz tossed the first three innings, allowing two hits and two runs (no earned runs) while Cambria Currie finished up the final two frames, allowing a hit and recording a strikeout.

Game 2: IC 8 Alvernia 0 (5 innings)
The Lady Blues got all the runs they would need in the opening inning. Seiler stroked a two-run single, followed by another single by Brooke Loveall that plated two more runs, and Mauermann then ended the inning by blasting a three-run home run to give IC a 7-0 lead.

IC added an insurance run in the third when Seiler, who led the offense with a pair of hits, tripled and then came home on a throw.

Jordan Closs made the most of the run support, tossing a three-hit shutout in the circle with four strikeouts.
