Lady Blues Push Winning Streak to Four with Sweep

FULTON, Mo. – The Illinois College softball team swept a doubleheader from Westminster to run its winning streak to four games on Saturday at Blue Jay Field.

IC won the opener, 7-0, and took the nightcap, 5-4.

The Lady Blues are now 10-6 on the season. Westminster dropped to 1-8.

Game 1: IC 7 Westminster 0
The Lady Blues got all the runs they would need in the top of the first inning. Maddie Adams led off the game with a solo home run, and Gabby Miller later scored on a Westminster error to make it 2-0.

IC added a single run in the second when Ezzy Mauermann drilled a solo home run. Elysia Hand's RBI single to score Alivia Darbe in the third made it 4-0. The Lady Blues put the game away with three runs in the fourth. Darbe singled to score Adams, Miller crossed the plate after a Blue Jay error, and Kendall Cole rapped an RBI single to score Darby.

Jordan Closs was dominant in the circle for the Lady Blues. She tossed a five-hit shutout with a season-high 11 strikeouts.

Cole paced the offensive attack with three hits while Darbe and Miller each had two.

Game 2: IC 5 Westminster 4
IC jumped out to a 5-0 lead and then held off a late rally by the Blue Jays to post the victory.

The Lady Blues got the first run of the game in the first inning when Cambria Currie scored on a Westminster error. IC added three in the third inning when Adams blasted her second home run of the day, before Halie Williams drove home Currie with a sacrifice fly. Bella Thien singled home Darbe to close out the IC scoring.

IC picked up an important insurance run in the fourth inning when Adams drove home Mauermann with a single. The Blue Jays would score twice in the fourth and add two more in the sixth inning, but it wasn't enough as IC won its fourth straight.

Adams and Shelby Seiler each had a pair of hits to lead the offensive attack.

In the circle, Avery Fritz started and got the win, allowing six hits and four runs (three earned) with five strikeouts in her five innings of work. Currie came in and threw two innings of scoreless and hitless relief with three strikeouts.
