CLEARMONT, Fla. – The Illinois College softball team split a pair of games on the annual Florida trip on Thursday at the Legends Way Complex.
IC opened the day by outlasting Adrian, 10-8, before falling to Bethany Lutheran, 5-3 in the nightcap.
The Lady Blues are now 6-6 on the season.
Game 1: IC 10 Adrian 8
IC was able to win the slugfest by rallying from an early five-run deficit.
Adrian led 5-0 after three innings before the Lady Blues' bats went to work. IC tied the game in its half of the fourth.
Brooke Loveall rapped a two-run triple, and
Raegan Rezba had a two-run single, which were the big blows for the Lady Blues.
Elysia Hand sent IC in front with an RBI groundout.
Adrian came back with a run to tie it in the fifth before the Lady Blues plated six in the top of the sixth to take a lead they would never relinquish.
Gabby Miller,
Alivia Darbe, and
Kendall Cole all had RBI during the outburst.
Miller and Loveall each had a pair of hits for the IC offense.
Avery Fritz picked up the win in relief of starter
Jordan Closs. Fritz went four innings, allowing five hits and three runs (no earned runs) with a pair of strikeouts.
Game 2: BL 5 IC 3
Bethany Lutheran jumped ahead and led 4-0 after two innings, before IC got its bats going. The Lady Blues cut the deficit to 4-3 in the bottom of the third inning. Darbe and Hand each had consecutive RBI triples, and
Shelby Seiler added a sacrifice fly to account for IC's runs.
Bethany Lutheran then plated two more insurance runs in the fourth to seal the victory.
Darbe and
Cambria Currie each had a pair of hits to pace the Lady Blues. Currie took the loss in the circle, giving up eight hits and five runs (three earned) with four strikeouts in her five innings of work. Fritz finished the game, allowing a hit with a strikeout in the final two innings.
