PELLA, Iowa – The Illinois College softball team split with 20th-ranked Central on Saturday at the Central Softball Field.
Central took the opener, 7-6, before IC exploded for 12 runs to post a 12-3, five-inning victory in the nightcap.
The Lady Blues are now 13-7, while the Dutch are 16-2.
Game 1: Central 7 IC 6
The Lady Blues scored first when
Bella Thien walked with the bases loaded in the first inning. After Central plated two in its half of the inning, IC came back with two of its own in the second.
Cambria Currie and
Maddie Adams each walked with the bases loaded to bring home the scores.
A three-run double by Currie in the fifth inning that scored
Ezzy Mauermann,
Lilly Siller, and Thien made it 6-2. The Dutch came back with three runs in their half of the inning to cut the lead to one and won the game with two in the bottom of the seventh, with the winning run scoring with two outs.
Thien had two hits for IC while Currie drove home four.
Jordan Closs allowed seven runs (five earned) with two strikeouts in her 6.2 innings of work.
Game 2: IC 12 Central 3 (5 innings)
This contest was all IC from the opening pitch. IC sprinted to a 9-0 lead after the first 3 ½ innings of action.
IC got two in the first when Adams scored on an error, and
Shelby Seiler stroked an RBI single to score
Alivia Darbe. The Lady Blues added two more in the second when Thien smacked a two-run home run that also plated Currie.
In the third inning, Currie ripped a two-run double to score
Elysia Hand and Seiler before she scored on a single by Mauermann. IC's scoring run continued in the fourth when Seiler singled home Adams.
After Central scored three times in the fourth, IC added three runs of its own in the fifth. Mauermann drilled a two-run home run scoring Currie, and
Alyssa Teixeira doubled home Thien to close out the scoring.
Seiler had three hits and three RBI for the Lady Blues. Mauermann added two hits with her three RBI while Currie had three safeties as well. Thien and Adams each collected two hits.
Currie also earned the victory in the circle, working all five innings and allowing three runs on six hits with five strikeouts.

IC has now won six of its last seven games.
