IC Falls Twice at Millikin

DECATUR, Ill. – The Illinois College softball team dropped a pair of games to Millikin on Sunday at the Workman Family Softball Field.

The Big Blue opened the day with a 3-1 win and followed that with a 7-3 victory in game two.

The Lady Blues are now 13-9, while Millikin is 10-9.

Game 1: Millikin 3 IC 1
The Big Blue built a 3-0 lead with a single run in the first and two in the third. IC got on the board in the top of the fifth inning when Ezzy Mauermann blasted a solo home run, but that is all the scoring the Lady Blues would have.

Gabby Miller paced the IC attack with three hits while Elysia Hand added two. Jordan Closs worked all six innings in the circle, allowing three runs on seven hits with three strikeouts.

Game 2: Millikin 7 IC 3
The Lady Blues jumped ahead right off the bat with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning. Miller scored on a Millikin error, then Cambria Currie scored on a wild pitch to put IC up 2-0.

The Big Blue tied the game with two runs in their half of the first. IC then immediately jumped back in front when Mauermann smacked her second home run of the day to put the Lady Blues up 3-2. Millikin then scored five unanswered runs throughout the final five innings to secure the game and the sweep.

IC's offense was led by Halie Williams, who collected two hits. Avery Fritz started and tossed 4.1 innings in the circle, allowing nine hits and six runs (four earned) with a strikeout. Currie pitched the final 1.2 innings, allowing a run on two hits with a strikeout.
