Lenhardt Free Throws Send IC Past Monmouth

JACKSONVILLE, Ill.Ty Lenhardt drilled two free throws with 0:00.4 left to send the Illinois College men's basketball team to a 63-62 win over Monmouth in a Midwest Conference contest on Saturday at Sherman Gymnasium.

The win moved the Blueboys to 12-13 overall and 9-7 in conference play, concluding the regular season. The Fighting Scots finished the regular season 19-6 and 14-2.

The contest was tight for the entire day. The teams traded leads early in the contest before Monmouth used a 6-0 run to take a 20-14 lead with 4:08 left in the first half. IC stormed back late in the period, and a 13-5 stretch sent the Blueboys into halftime with a 27-25 lead.

As they did in the first half, the Fighting Scots jumped back in front early and led by as much as six (39-33) with 13:17 to play, then the Blueboys got going. IC roared back and pushed to a 52-45 lead with 8:13 left. IC was up 61-54 with 2:35 remaining before Monmouth made a furious comeback and took a 62-61 lead with 17 seconds remaining, setting up Lehnardt's dramatics in the waning seconds.

Lenhardt led IC with a game-high 22 points, including a 10-for-12 performance from the free throw line. DeShawn Nolan was the only other Blueboy in double figures as he scored 11.  Brady Clark snared a game-high 10 rebounds for IC while Jaylen Swinney contributed six points and six rebounds off the bench.

Up Next
The Blueboys will play in their fifth-straight Midwest Conference Tournament on Friday in Grinnell, Iowa. IC will be the four-seed and face the top-seed and host, Grinnell. Game time will be announced later this weekend.
