GRINNELL, Iowa – Illinois College turned a close game into a solid road win Tuesday night, defeating Grinnell College 74-62 in a Midwest Conference matchup at Darby Gym.
The win moves Illinois College to 10-12 overall and 6-7 in conference play, while Grinnell falls to 10-11 overall and 7-6 in the MWC.
The opening quarter was a defensive battle, with Grinnell holding a narrow 9-8 lead after 10 minutes. Illinois College found its offensive groove in the second quarter, outscoring the Pioneers 24-16 to take a 32-25 advantage into halftime.
Illinois College kept control coming out of the break, building momentum in the third quarter and extending the lead to 55-46 heading into the final period. Grinnell made a push late, but Illinois College stayed steady, closing the game at the free-throw line to seal the 74-62 victory.
Raegen Stringer paced Illinois College with 16 points on 7-of-9 shooting. Jayln Patterson added 15 points along with four rebounds, four assists, and three blocks, while Danielle Beach finished with 14 points and five rebounds. Kallie Oestreicher also reached double figures with 13 points, knocking down three three-pointers.
Illinois College shot 43.5 percent from the field and 38.9 percent from beyond the arc, forcing 18 turnovers and converting them into 25 points.
