Lady Blues Conclude UW-Whitewater Invite Against Ranked Competition

WHITEWATER, Wis. – The Illinois College volleyball team closed out the UW-Whitewater Invite on Saturday with two matches against strong WIAC competition, falling to Wisconsin-Whitewater and UW-River Falls.

The Lady Blues fall to 4-11 on the year, while UW-Whitewater improves to 13-2 and River Falls moves to 9-9. 

Match 1: Wisconsin-Whitewater 3 IC 0
The Lady Blues faced a nationally ranked Warhawk squad and fell by scores of 25-10, 25-14, and 25-20. After dropping the first two sets, IC battled back in the third and kept things close before UWW pulled away late.

Laura Kaiser was solid for IC finishing with four kills on a .667 hitting percentage. Delani Klaas added five kills and a block, while Riley Drake contributed three kills and three service aces. Summer Brandis dished out 12 assists to pace the offense, and Reagan Oster anchored the defense with 11 digs.

Match 2: UW-River Falls 3 IC 0
In the afternoon, the Lady Blues came up short against the Falcons, 25-13, 25-14, 25-21. IC fought back in the third set, using a late run to close the gap before River Falls sealed the win.

Drake once again led the offense, recording 10 kills and five digs. Alyssa Burglund provided a spark with five kills and a block, while Kahli O'Neal finished with 11 assists and two service aces. Oster and Amy Frerichs combined for 21 digs in the back row to steady the defense.

Blue Notes
RIley Drake was named to the All-Tournament Team at the conclusion of the tournament.

The Lady Blues are back in action for their second match of the season against Greenville University as they head to Greenville for a 7:00pm match on Tuesday.
