Blueboys Top Lake Forest in Overtime, DeFrisco Wins 50th

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Illinois College football team moved to 2-0 on the season with a thrilling 28-25 overtime win over Lake Forest on Saturday afternoon at steamy England Stadium.

The Blueboys moved to 2-0, while Lake Forest is now 0-2. 

The win was career victory number 50 for IC Head Coach Ray DeFrisco.

It was a game of runs in regulation as IC jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter thanks to a 34-yard pass from Tyson Elliott to Kyle Leonard. Tanner Spencer then added a one-yard run to close out the scoring for the half.

The early portion of the second half was all Lake Forest as the Foresters scored twice to tie the contest. 

With just over four minutes to play, Lake Forest took its first lead of the game on a short touchdown run. The Lake Forest holder dropped the snap, and IC's Jaylen Johnson returned the fumble 95 yards to give IC two points and make the score 20-16 in favor of Lake Forest.

The Blueboys then marched down the field and retook the lead when Elliott scampered in from eight yards out. The ensuing extra point was blocked, and Lake Forest returned the ball 94 yards for two points, and the score was tied at 22.

In overtime, Lake Forest had the ball first, and the IC defense held them to a field goal.

On IC's possession, Leonard latched on to a 19-yard strike from Elliot on the second play to push IC to 2-0.

Elliott finished the game 22-for-28 for 203 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He also rushed nine times for 46 yards and caught a pass for 15 yards.

Leonard caught nine balls for 132 yards and two scores. Lleyton Miller had four catches for 26 yards and carried 11 times for 29 yards. 

The IC linebacking duo of Drake Stuart and Cam Dailey carried the load for the Blueboys D. Stuart had 14 tackles (one for loss) and a sack while Dailey had 12 points (and one TFL).

Blue Notes
IC is 2-0 for the first time since 2013… the win was IC's first over Lake Forest since 2015... the Blueboys have now won 18 of their past 20 regular-season games, and IC has also won 23 of its last 27 games overall.

The Blueboys hit the road for the first time in the 2025 season when they travel to Chicago to face the University of Chicago on Saturday. Kick-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
