Chicago Holds Off IC

CHICAGO, Ill. – The University of Chicago jumped out to a 24-7 lead and then held off an IC rally to post a 24-21 Midwest Conference win on Saturday at Stagg Field.

The Blueboys dropped to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in conference action, while the Maroons are now 2-0 and 2-1.

After a scoreless first quarter, IC got on the board first when Tyson Elliott found Zechariah Wease on a 54-yard strike. Toby McTamney's extra point made it 7-0.

The Maroons then rattled off 24 unanswered points, which included racing to a 17-7 halftime lead, the final points coming on a 50-yard field goal on the last play of the half.

After Chicago scored early in the third quarter to make it 24-7, the Blueboys then roared back.

The combination of Elliott and Javen Alexander hooked up on a pair of touchdown passes. The first came from 15 yards out with 2:17 to play in the third quarter. The second score came at the 6:45 mark of the fourth quarter on an eight-yard strike, but that would close out the scoring for the day.

IC outgained Chicago 268-242 on the day. Elliott was 23-of-33 for 225 yards and three touchdowns. Cole Stuart led the receiving corps with six catches for 45 yards. Wease latched on to a pair of throws for 67 yards while Alexander had four grabs for 24 yards.

Tyson Elliott led the rushing attack with 31 yards on 12 carries.

Once again, the defense was bolstered by the linebacking duo of Drake Stuart and Cam Dailey. Stuart had a team-high 10 tackles while Dailey added nine, including a tackle-for-loss.

McTamney was perfect on all three of his extra points.
