Lady Blues Win Conference Tournament Opener

LAKE FOREST, Ill. – The Illinois College softball team opened the 2025 Midwest Conference Tournament with a 12-6 victory over Lawrence on Friday at Mohr Field.

With the victory, IC improved to 25-16 while Lawrence fell to 19-20.

The Vikings opened the game by scoring a run in the top of the first inning before the Lady Blues exploded for 11 unanswered runs.

IC opened with two runs in the second inning thanks to RBI from Kendall Cole and Elysia Hand. The Lady Blues added a pair in the second when Shelby Seiler scored on an error and Brooke Loveall rapped an RBI single.

The Lady Blues broke the game wide open with a four-spot in the third inning as Raegan Rezba drilled a two-run double, Loveall added a sacrifice fly for an RBI, and Hand scored on a Viking error. In the fourth inning, Ezzy Mauermann's two-run triple was the big blow. Rezba also stroked a two-run double. IC closed out its scoring in the fifth inning with an RBI single from Hand.

Avery Fritz pitched the first 4 1/3 innings to earn the win. She allowed five runs on five hits with four strikeouts. Cambria Currie and Jordan Closs closed out the contest.

Hand led the IC attack, going 4-for-4 with two RBI and a double. Rezba collected three hits, including her double, and drove in three. Loveall and Taylor Henry each had two hits as well.

Blue Notes
IC has now won 12 of its last 13 contests… with her one shutout inning, Closs has moved her scoreless innings streak to 53 1/3, which is tied for 10th all-time in NCAA Division III and the longest since 2011.
