ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The 14th-ranked Wash U softball team took a doubleheader from Illinois College on Wednesday at the Wash U Softball Field.
The Bears won the opening contest, 3-1, and completed the sweep with a 5-1 win in the nightcap.
The Lady Blues are now 12-14 overall, Wash U moved to 23-5.
Game 1: Wash U 3 IC 1
Wash U got out to a 3-0 lead with two runs in the first inning and a solo tally in the second.
The Lady Blues got a run back in their half of the third inning on an

Mauermann led the IC attack with two hits, including her first collegiate home run.
Raegan Rezba,
Shelby Seiler,
Delaney Melton,
Taylor Henry, and
Elysia Hand all had hits for the Lady Blues.
Jordan Closs pitched six innings in the circle, allowing just three hits and an earned run.
Game 2: Wash U 5 IC 1
As they did in the first game, the Bears jumped ahead quickly with two runs in the opening frame. After Wash U added a single run in the fourth, IC got on the board in the fifth when Rezba tripled home Mauermann.
Wash U added an insurance run in its half of the fifth, which proved to be the final margin of victory.
Along with Rezba's triple,
Brooke Loveall added a double for IC, while Melton and
Kendall Cole each had singles.
