Lady Blues Split in Beloit

BELOIT, Wis. – IC split its first Midwest Conference road doubleheader on Saturday at the Strong Stadium Complex.

IC took the opening contest 6-0 before Beloit bounced back to win the nightcap, 3-2.

The Lady Blues are now 13-15 overall and 4-2 in conference play. Beloit is now to 3-26 and 1-6. 

Game 1: IC 6 Beloit 0
Jordan Closs was the story in this contest as she tossed a two-hit shutout with 12 strikeouts. Closs is now 6-3 on the season.

The Lady Blues gave Closs all the run support she needed in the second inning when Delaney Melton and Ezzy Mauermann scored on Buccaneer errors.

IC added a run in the third when Kendall Cole bopped a solo home run and grabbed three more in the seventh. Alyssa Teixeira scored on a Beloit error, Elysia Hand drove home Allison Fraley with a sacrifice fly, and Haley Flores plated Shelby Seiler on an RBI ground out.

Cole led a balanced IC offense with two hits.

Game 2: Beloit 3 IC 2
The Buccaneers scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth and then held on for the victory.

IC took a 1-0 lead in the first when Cambria Currie scored via a Beloit error. After Beloit tied the game in the fourth, the Lady Blues bounced back to tie the game in the top of the sixth inning when Melton scored on another Buccaneer error.

Currie, Melton, Lilly Siller, and Brooke Loveall each had hits for IC.

Avery Fritz suffered the loss in the circle, tossing 5 1/3 innings and allowing three runs on four hits while recording six strikeouts.

IC continues its Midwest Conference road trip with a visit to Lake Forest tomorrow. The first pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
