JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Illinois College softball team recorded its first conference sweep of the season, taking a pair from Lawrence on Monday at Jessica Kamp Field.
IC took the opening game, 10-2 in six innings, and then rallied late to post a 4-3 victory in the nightcap.
The Lady Blues are now 12-12 overall and 3-1 in conference play. The Vikings moved to 7-16 and 2-2 in league action.
Game 1: IC 810 LU 2 (6 innings)
The Lady Blues jumped out early and never looked back. IC scored twice in the second inning, two more times in the fourth and fifth before putting the contest away with four in the sixth.Â
Taylor Henry was 4-for-5 with a double at the plate and had an RBI.
Brooke Loveall had a pair of hits and drove in four.
Delaney Melton and
Raegan Rezba also collected two hits apiece for the Lady Blues.
Jordan Closs was dominant again in the circle, allowing just three hits and striking out seven in her six innings of work. She improved to 5-2 on the season.
Game 2: IC 4 LU 3
Lawrence jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning and shut down IC until the fifth. After Loveall walked with the bases loaded to score IC's first run, Henry drilled a three-run double into the left-center field gap to give the Lady Blues a 4-2 lead.
Henry was 2-for-3 with three RBI at the plate and worked 5 2/3 innings in the circle. She allowed six hits and one earned run while striking out three to earn her second victory of the season.
Avery Fritz pitched the final inning and a third to earn her first save of the season.
