Lady Blues Blast Eureka

EUREKA, Ill. – IC broke out the bats and added some pitching in rolling to a doubleheader sweep of Eureka on Tuesday at Sweitzer Field.

IC won the opener, 10-0, and then took the nightcap, 10-1 in five innings.

The Lady Blues are now 17-15 overall. Eureka moved to 6-16.

Game 1: IC 10 EC 0
Jordan Closs was dominant in the circle as she twirled a 1-hit shutout with a school-record 18 strikeouts. 

IC jumped ahead with a run in the first on an RBI single from Elysia Hand. Cambria Currie scored on a wild pitch, and Kayla Serpa had an RBI groundout in the second inning before the Lady Blues broke the game open with four runs in the third inning. Hand and Ezzy Mauermann each had an RBI while Serpa added two more on a single.

In the seventh inning, Raegan Rezba had a two-run triple, and Serpa added her fourth RBI of the contest to close out the scoring.

Rezba and Currie each had three hits for IC.

Game 2: IC 10 EC 1 (5 innings)
IC's Alyssa Teixeira opened the scoring with a run in the second inning when she crossed home on an error by Eureka. 

After Eureka scored in their half of the second, the Lady Blues erupted for nine runs over the next three innings.

IC got four runs in the third keyed by RBI from Teixeira and Rezba. It added two more in the fourth inning off of Eureka errors and ended the contest with three in the fifth inning.

Avery Fritz went the distance in the circle, giving up just two hits with six strikeouts.
