JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Illinois College softball team split a non-conference doubleheader with Illinois Wesleyan on Wednesday at Jessica Kamp Field.
The Lady Blues rolled to a 7-0 victory in game one before the Titans picked up the night cap with a 2-1 victory.
The Lady Blues are now 9-9 overall, while Illinois Wesleyan moved to 7-5.
Game 1: IC 7 IWU 0
IC exploded for four runs in the opening frame and never looked back.
Taylor Henry stroked an RBI single to open the scoring.
Kendall Cole then smacked a two-run double, and
Cambria Currie closed out the inning with an RBI single.
The Lady Blues added insurance runs with two in the second inning when
Kayla Serpa and Henry scored on a Titan error. IC closed out the scoring in the fourth with a Henry sacrifice fly that plated
Raegan Rezba.
Jordan Closs was dominant in the circle, tossing a four-hit shutout with five strikeouts. After Illinois Wesleyan loaded the bases in the fifth inning with no outs, Closs induced two pop outs and a strike to escape unscathed.
Game 2: IWU 2 IC 0
A classic pitcher's duel saw the Titans open the scoring with a two-out, two-run double in the top of the sixth inning. The Lady Blues cut the lead in half in the bottom of the sixth when
Brooke Loveall smashed a solo home run to right field, but that would be the only score IC could muster.
Henry went the distance in the circle, allowing eight hits with three strikeouts.
Loveall and
Shelby Seiler each had two hits to pace the IC offense.
