Lady Blues Split with 15th-ranked Central

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Illinois College softball team used a dramatic finish in game one to post a split with 15th-ranked Central in a non-conference doubleheader on Saturday at Jessica Kamp Field.

IC took the opener, 9-7, and dropped the nightcap, 9-0 in five innings.

The Lady Blues are now 8-8 overall while Central moved to 7-3.

Game 1: IC 9 Central 7
IC scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to cap a dramatic come-from-behind victory. Pinch hitter Halie Williams stroked a three-run single that was the difference. IC rallied three times in the game.

Brooke Loveall, who hit a two-run home run in the sixth inning to give IC the lead, and Cambria Currie, who scored three runs, each had two hits for IC. 

Currie pitched the final 2/3 innings in relief of Jordan Closs to earn her victory collegiate victory. Closs threw the first 6 1/3 with five strikeouts.

Game 2: Central 9 IC 0
The Dutch stormed out to a 6-0 lead after the first inning and cruised. Central added three in the fourth and put the game away.

The IC offense was paced by Loveall who recorded the only two hits for the Lady Blues.

Taylor Henry didn't allow an earned run in her 4 2/3 innings of work after coming on in relief of Avery Fritz who took the loss.

Up Next
With tomorrow's scheduled doubleheader at Eureka postponed, IC will return to Jessica Kamp Field on Wednesday to host Illinois Wesleyan. The doubleheader begins at 3:00 p.m.
