GRINNELL, Iowa – Illinois College's
Buzz Ritzel and
Josh Harris were named to the Midwest Conference Men's Basketball all-conference team, the league announced today.
Ritzel was selected for the first team while Harris was on the second unit.
This is the third straight year Ritzel, a senior from Nashville, Ill., has been a first-team pick. He is the first player to accomplish that feat since Sean Espinoza from Lake Forest earned first-team honors from 2018-19 through 2021-22.Â
Ritzel is averaging 18.3 points and five rebounds per game. He also has 47 assists and 27 steals. Â He currently leads the Midwest Conference in minutes played, is fourth in scoring, sixth in free throw percentage, seventh in 3pt. field goals per game, 10th in field goal percentage, 21st in assists, and 23rd in steals.
In IC annals, Ritzel's 1,312 career points rank ninth all-time. He also currently ranks fourth in school history for free throws attempted, fifth in free throws made, seventh in both 3pt. field goals and field goals attempted, as well as eighth in field goals made.
Harris, a senior from Maywood, Ill., averages 15.1 points and 4.5 rebounds per outing. He leads the team with 58 assists and has 21 steals. Harris has scored 1,178 points in his career, which is 15th in school history. He is also sixth all-time at IC in 3pt. field goals made.
The Blueboys will open play in the 2024-25 Midwest Conference Tournament on Friday when they face Grinnell in the semifinals at 5:00 p.m. in Monmouth, Ill.
