JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Illinois College women's basketball team's rally fell just short as it dropped an 86-74 decision to Knox in the Midwest Conference opener for both teams on Tuesday at Sherman Gymnasium.
IC moved to 3-4 overall and 0-1 in conference play. Knox improved to 2-3 and 1-0.

The Prairie Fire were ahead 14-12 after the first quarter and used a 30-14 run in the second quarter to 44-26 lead at halftime.
The second half saw the Lady Blues make their comeback. After trailing by as much as 20 points late in the second quarter, IC was able to whittle the Knox lead to eight points (57-49) with 38 seconds left in the third quarter.
The Lady Blues' comeback continued into the final 10 minutes and a 3pt. field goal by
Kallie Oestreicher with 1:46 to play made the score 72-71 in favor of the Prairie Fire but that would be as close as IC would get.
Oestreicher led IC with 19 points while
Cora DeSutter added 14 points and seven rebounds.
Jayln Patterson was the other Lady Blue in double figures with 10 points.
Raegen Stringer dished out a game-high nine assists for IC.

The Lady Blues will take a break for Thanksgiving before returning to action on December 3rd when they travel to Monmouth for a Midwest Conference contest at 7:30 p.m.
