MONMOUTH, Ill.- Illinois College earned an 84–58 road win at Monmouth on Wednesday night, using a strong second quarter to take control of the game.
The Lady Blues improve to 5-5 on the season and 1-1 in Midwest Conference play and Monmouth falls to 2-4 on the season.
After a 14–14 first quarter, the Lady Blues outscored the Scots 25–16 in the second, creating the separation they needed the rest of the way.
Illinois College continued to build momentum after halftime, putting together a 25–12 third quarter that pushed the lead to 20. IC's defense sparked much of that run, forcing turnovers and turning them into easy points in transition.
Offensively, the Lady Blues were led by 19 points each from Kallie Oestreicher and Jayln Patterson, with Patterson also grabbing 10 rebounds for a double-double. Cora DeSutter added 7 points and 6 assists, while Danielle Beach and Raegen Stringer combined for 12 points and 13 rebounds. Fourteen different players scored as IC's depth played a major role in the win.
Defensively, Illinois College held Monmouth to 32 percent shooting and just one made three-pointer on 17 attempts. The Lady Blues forced 22 turnovers and outscored the Scots 46–32 in the paint while generating 20 fast-break points.
