Blueboys Get Past Grinnell

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Illinois College football team outlasted Grinnell, posting a 14-7 win over the Pioneers on Senior Day Saturday at England Stadium.

IC 6-2 overall and 5-2 in Midwest Conference action. Grinnell is now 1-7 overall and 1-6 in the league.

The Blueboys came out of the gate and grounded out a methodical scoring drive on the first series of the game, which culminated with a one-yard touchdown run by Tyson Elliott.

IC scored what would be the winning points early in the second quarter when Elliott found Kyle Leonard on a 29-yard scoring strike. Toby McTamney drilled both extra points, and the Blueboys took a 14-0 lead into halftime.

Grinnell got on the board midway through the third quarter to cut the IC lead in half, but that would be the end of the scoring for the day.

The Blueboys outgained the Pioneers, 274-196, on the day. 

Elliott was efficient on the day, going 15-for-19 for 176 yards and a touchdown. 

Leonard led the receiving corps with four grabs for 69 yards and a score. Cole Stuart added three catches for 38 yards, and Lleyton Miller also had three catches, good for 18 yards.

The ground attack featured Miller getting 46 yards on 12 carries while Tanner Spencer had 33 yards on his 10 tries.

IC's defense was led by Cam Dailey, who had 11 tackles on the day, while four Blueboys – Jaylen Johnson, Malik Byndom, Landon Grapperhaus, and Daniel Guzevich – all recorded interceptions in the contest. Johnson also had seven stops.

The Blueboys have now won 21 of their past 25 regular-season games… IC has also won 26 of its last 32 games overall… IC finishes the home portion of the season with 11-straight victories at England Stadium... Prior to the game, the Blueboys honored 17 members of the program who were making their final appearance at England Stadium.

IC will be back on the road for the final two games of the regular season, starting with a trip to Cornell next Saturday. Kick-off in Mt. Vernon, Iowa is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
