JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Illinois College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), in conjunction with the Midwest Conference (MWC), is proud to participate in the 11th annual MWC SAAC Canned Food Challenge.
Since its launch in the fall of 2014, the Canned Food Challenge has made a significant impact, with student-athletes across the league collecting over 115,000 non-perishable food items and raising approximately $39,973 in monetary donations.
Contributions to the Canned Food Challenge have supported numerous local organizations and families in need throughout the footprint of the conference, exemplifying the commitment of our student-athletes to making a difference in their communities.
Each member institution's SAAC will oversee campus efforts to collect non-perishable food items and monetary donations to be donated to local food pantries, shelters, or similar organizations of their choosing.
IC's SAAC will begin its collection period on October 15th and run through November 12th. Fans attending these home events are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to the contest. IC SAAC members will be collecting canned goods and cash ($0.50 = 2 cans) at halftime of 13 home events during that time period. Collection boxes will also be set up in the Bruner Athletic Center for individual drop-offs during non-competition times.
