IC Outlasts Lake Forest

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Illinois College men's basketball team had four players in double figures and used that balance to hold off Lake Forest, 81-75, on Saturday at Sherman Gymnasium.

The victory moves IC to 12-5 overall and 5-3 in conference play. Lake Forest dropped to 6-10 and 3-4.

The Blueboys lead for the first 13 minutes of the opening half after scoring the game's first six points. The Foresters took a brief lead at 28-27 with 7:41 to play in the opening half then IC used a 6-0 run to gain cushion. Lake Forest got within one and again, the Blueboys 9-4 run over the final 2:07 to take a 47-41 lead into halftime.

In the second half, IC led for the first nine minutes, but Lake Forest used a flurry of 3-point field goals to take a 65-51 lead with 9:08 to play. The Foresters held a 69-67 advantage with 5:27 remaining before Nick Doroskin buried a 3-point field goal that gave IC a lead it would never give up. The Blueboys pushed their advantage to as much as seven in the contest's final minutes.

Buzz Ritzel again led IC with a game-high 20 points. Seth Doss added a career-high 16 points to go with his eight rebounds. Javonte McKenzie tossed in 13 points and led IC with a game-high nine rebounds. Doroskin came off the bench to score a career-best 13 points.

Blue Notes
IC played without second-leading scorer Josh Harris who missed the contest due to injury… the Blueboys have won 44 of their last 54 games and 61 of the past 71… IC has also won 33 of its previous 40 Midwest Conference contests… today was just the second home game for IC in its past nine contests… sophomore guard Marcus Coleman made the first start of his career.
