FULTON, Mo. – The Illinois College men's soccer team jumped out to a two-goal lead and made it stand up in a 2-1 win over Westminster on Thursday evening at Kent & Judith Mueller Stadium.
The win moved IC to 2-1 on the young season while the Blue Jays fell to 0-3.
IC 2 Westminster 0
The Blueboys jumped out to a quick early lead when
Reed Rogers tallied on an unassisted goal just 3:58 into the contest. That lead stayed through the remainder of the first half.
IC wasted little time padding the score after the intermission as
Tyler Schiltz found the net unassisted 1:16 into the final frame. The Blueboys would carry the two-goal lead until the waning minutes of the contest when Westminster scored at the 84:13 mark. That would be as close as the Blue Jays would get.
Westminster outshot IC, 8-6, but
TJ Esseily stood tall in net, recording four saves. Rogers led the Blueboys' offensive attack with a pair of shots while Schiltz,
Tyler Lunning, Aidan Gowan, and
Jives Efemini each had one.
Blue Notes
Rogers scored his second goal of the season. He has scored in each of IC's two victories... Esseily has both of the Blueboy victories in net.
