JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Illinois College men's soccer team opened defense of its Midwest Conference regular season title with a 3-1 victory over Ripon on Saturday at England Stadium.
The victory improved IC to 6-3-1 overall and 1-0-0 in conference play. The Red Hawks dropped to 8-2-0 and 0-1-0.

The first half was a defensive struggle before the offenses got going in the final 45 minutes.
The Blueboys opened the scoring when
Jacob Pelletier found the back of the net at the 59:52 mark off an assist from
Carver Taylor.
IC added a second tally under six minutes later when
Oscar Liogon Arenas scored unassisted at 66:27.
After the Red Hawks scored on a penalty kick by Finley Manning at the 75:54 mark, the Blueboys essentially put the match out of reach when
Tyler Schiltz scored at 88:05.
IC out-shot Ripon 19-7 and was led by Schiltz and Liogon Arenas, who had four apiece.
Jason Hernandez and
Reed Rogers each added three for the victors.
Owen Macias went the distance in goal for the Blueboys and recorded three saves on the day.

IC is now 3-0-1 in its last four regular-season conference home matches and 6-1-2 in its last nine conference contests.

IC will hit the road for its final non-conference contest of the season on Wednesday when it travels to Elmhurst for a 5:00 p.m. kickoff.
