JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – Illinois College has named
Jay Rowell its golf coach, it was announced today by Director of Athletics Meghan Roman.
Rowell, who has been a member of the IC athletics department over the past five seasons, stepped in to lead the program on an interim basis this past Spring before being promoted to the position full-time. During his interim period, the Blueboys set four school records while the Lady Blues won two of the five tournaments they participated in.
"Jay has been a tireless worker and advocate for the entire IC athletics department, and we are thrilled to name him to this position," Roman said. "We believe Jay will continue to build on the foundation the golf programs have established and will be a wonderful representative of our entire college throughout the process."

"I want to thank President Farley, Meghan Roman, and Steve Schweer for the opportunities they have provided for me and the confidence they have shown in me. I can't wait to continue the strong tradition of golf at IC and work with competitive and driven student-athletes!"
Highlighting his time on the Blueboys' men's basketball staff were back-to-back Midwest Conference championships, a pair of berths in the NCAA Tournament along with the program's first NCAA Tournament victory last season.
Rowell spent the 2018-19 season with Knox as an assistant coach and before his time in Galesburg, Jay spent two years at Peoria Christian High School and a pair of seasons at Peoria Central High School, respectively. Rowell also coached at Tinley Park High School prior to moving to Peoria. During this time, Jay was also the head coach of the Peoria Area Elite 16U AAU program for six seasons.
Rowell is a United States Air Force veteran with seven years of service who was awarded the Air Force Meritorious Service Award.Â
