KISSMIIEE, Fla. –  The Illinois College women's softball team split a pair of games in Florida on Monday, beating Carlow, 9-0, and falling to Aurora, 11-2.
In the opener, pitching was all IC needed as
Hannah Crouch and
Calynn Gicante combined to toss a no-hitter. Crouch worked the first four innings, striking out two while Gicante finished up the final frame.
Gicante also provided all the offense the Lady Blues would need when she stroked a two-run single to start a three-run first inning. A
Kendall Cole RBI single closed out the first inning scoring. IC added two more in the second on an RBI double by
Taylor Henry and run scoring error by the Celtics.
IC tallied three more times in the fifth to put the game out of reach.
Allison Mortland had a two-run double and after
Lucy Snow scored on an error,
Cheyenne Anderson singled to score Mortland.
In the second contest, Aurora scored first, plating single runs in each of the first two innings before IC got on the board in their half of the third.
Kayla Serpa singled, moved to third on a single by Henry and then stole home.
Aurora came back with three runs in the top of the fourth before the Lady Blues answered with another single run in the bottom of the fifth as Serpa scored on a Gicante single. The Spartans put the game out of reach with six runs in their end of the sixth inning to close out the scoring.
Henry and Gicante each had a pair of hits to lead the IC offensive attack.
Julia Drake suffered the loss in the circle, tossing four innings, allowing five runs on six hits with three strikeouts.
IC is back in action tomorrow when it travels to Clermont, Fla. and faces Marrietta at 4:15 p.m. and Benedictine at 6:15 p.m.
