ELSAH, Ill. - The Illinois College men's tennis team opened its 2024 season on the road with a double-header at Principia College on Saturday. The Blueboys split the opening day double-header by defeating Simposon College 5-4 before falling to the host Principia in straight sets.
Match 1: Illinois College 5, Simpson College 4
In the first match of the day, the Blueboys got off to an early 2-0 lead in double matches. IC's
Grayson Dupre and
Andrus Dupre earned a No. 2 doubles win by defeating their opponents 8-6 in a tight battle.
Momir Vickovic and
Antonio Loaiza took the other doubles match by default.
The Blueboys earned singles matches victories from A. Dupre and Vickovic in straight sets. IC won the overall match in the No. 6 singles as the Blueboys won the match from a default.
Match 2: Illinois College 0, Principia College 9
The second match of the day, the Blueboys faced very tough competition against the host Principia College. The duo of
Jeff Wernsing and
Glenn Conway played in the No. 1 doubles match and took four sets but fell in the match 4-8. The duo team of Vickovic and Loaiza captured two sets but lost the match 2-8.
In single matches, Conway earned four set victories but fell just short by the score 4-6. A. Dupre was able to secure two set victories but fell short by the 2-6.
The Blueboys will host Southwestern Illinois College and Kaskaskia College on Saurday, March 13 at 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM at Bellatti Tennis Complex
