APPLETON, Wis. – The Illinois College men's basketball team left little doubt as to the outcome of Saturday's game, leading from the opening stages and cruising to a 90-47 victory over Lawrence in a Midwest Conference contest at Alexander Gymnasium.
The win improved the Blueboys to 19-3 overall and 11-2 in conference play. The Vikings fell to 5-17 and 3-10. IC's win, coupled with Grinnell's loss at Lake Forest, vaulted the Blueboys back into sole possession of first place. IC travels to Grinnell on Wednesday.
IC had two players in double figures as
Matt Thompson came off the bench to lead the Blueboys with 22 points while
Buzz Ritzel added 19. Both players hit four three-point field goals on the day.
Nestor Daboin had a team-high nine rebounds to go with four blocks.
Jake Mazrimas and
Jahkeis Tippett had nine points while
Marcus Coleman added eight off the bench as well.
IC led for all but the first 1:08 of the contest, enjoying its largest advantage at 43 in the waning stages of the contest. All 19 Blueboys saw at least three minutes of action.
IC continues its road swing with a trip to Grinnell for a matchup of league leaders on Wednesday for a 5:30 p.m. conference contest.
