EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – The Illinois College softball team fell to Webster and Belhaven on Sunday during the final day of the Fontbonne Tournament at Plummer Family Park.
The Lady Blues lost to Webster, 4-0, in the first game of the day and then dropped an 8-3 decision to Belhaven in the nightcap. IC is now 0-4 on the young season.
In the opener, the Lady Blues fell victim to tough Webster pitching as they collected three hits in the game – all singles from
Halie Williams,
Cheyenne Anderson and
Calynn Gicante.Â

Julia Drake took the loss in the circle, going five innings and giving up four runs (one earned) on 10 hits with three strikeouts and a walk.
The second game saw Belhaven jump out to an early lead by plating four runs in the top of the second inning. IC chipped away at the lead in the bottom of the third when
Allison Mortland doubled to right, scoring
Claudia Adam who had reached on a fielder's choice.
Belhaven answered with a run in their half of the fourth to increase the lead to 5-1 and then added three insurance runs in the top of the sixth before IC made a late charge, scoring a pair in the bottom of the seventh when
Elysia Hand tripled, scoring pinch runner
Lucy Snow. Hand would later score on a ground out by
Taylor Henry to close out the offense for the day.
Hannah Crouch suffered the loss in the circle, working 5 1/3 innings, giving up seven hits and allowing seven runs (six earned) while walking four and striking out a pair.
The Lady Blues will return to action a week from today when they travel to Kissimmee, Fla. for the annual southern trip. IC opens the week on Sunday facing Ursinus College at 10:15 a.m. and the University of Dubuque at 12:30 p.m.
