JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Illinois College men's basketball seniors celebrated their final regular season home game in style as the Blueboys sprinted past Lake Forest, 107-91, in a Midwest Conference game Saturday at Sherman Gymnasium.
The win moved IC to 20-4 overall and 12-3 in conference play while the Foresters fell to 8-15 and 6-8.
The senior trio of
Jake Mazrimas,
Nestor Daboin and
Jahkeis Tippett made sure they would go out a winner in their regular season home finale, combining for 61 points, led by Mazrimas' 35. The Lockport native scored IC's first 12 points and never looked back. He also added seven rebounds and four assists on the day. Daboin added 15 points to go with his seven rebounds and Tippett had 11 points and seven rebounds as well.
IC's victory was not keyed by the seniors alone. Junior
Josh Harris poured in 26 points with four assists and classmate
Buzz Ritzel added 12 points and six boards.
Lake Forest was led by Alex Knight's 33 points while Alex Forowycz added 28.
The contest was tied at five in the early going before IC took control and led by as much as 17 at 29-12 with 12:37 to play in the half. The Foresters fought back and trailed only 59-50 at halftime.
Lake Forest continued to claw back into the contest in the second half and whittled the lead down to three at 76-73 with 11:56 to play, however a 9-0 run by the Blueboys effectively put the game out of reach.
IC will play the final regular season game of the year Wednesday when it travels to Knox for a 5:30 p.m. Midwest Conference contest. A victory would clinch at least a share of the league title for IC.
