Josh Harris exploded for 36 points and Illinois College rallied in the final 8:34 of the game to post a 70-66 win over Knox on Wednesday at Memorial Gym and clinched the 2023-24 Midwest Conference regular season championship.
IC concluded its regular season with a 21-4 overall record and a 13-3 slate in the league. The Blueboys' victory, coupled with Grinnell's 117-97 loss at Beloit on Wednesday, means IC will host the annual conference tournament on February 23rd and 24th at Sherman Gymnasium. This is the second consecutive year the Blueboys will host the tournament.
Along with Harris' 36-point, five-rebound effort,
Jake Mazrimas added 16 points and a game-high eight rebounds for the victors.
Austin Robinson came off the bench to grab six rebounds as well.
The contest was tight throughout the first half and the Prairie Fire took a 32-30 lead into halftime. The early portion of the second half was all Knox as it moved out to a 10-point lead (57-47) with 8:32 left before the Blueboys made their final run to clinch the title. IC outscored the Prairie Fire 23-3 over the last 8:14 to officially hoist the trophy.
