JACKSONVILLE, Ill- The Lady Blues dropped a heart breaker to open conference play Wednesday night against Cornell College, 60-58. IC moves to 2-6 on the season and Cornell climbs to 4-3.
The Lady Blues trailed after the first quarter 16-14 but came back to lead going into the half, 36-30 over the Rams. IC led by as many as 11 points midway through the 3
rd quarter and went into the 4
th quarter up seven points.
Illinois College and Cornell made a combined six field goals in the fourth quarter of play. With just six seconds remaining, Illinois College was assessed a flop technical foul, giving the Rams a trip to the free-throw line. Erin Knowles capitalized, making both shots to secure the win for Cornell.
Kallie Oestreicher led the charge for the Lady Blues with 17 points and eight rebounds going 5-8 from behind the arc.
Ashlyn Wightman added 10 points along with seven rebounds. IC outrebounded the Rams 48-44, but Cornell went to the line 26 times to the Lady Blues six.
Anna McKee finished with nine points, six rebounds, and three steals.
