Blueboys Lose in Double OT

APPLETON, Wis. – The Illinois College men's basketball team dropped a double overtime Midwest Conference decision to Lawrence, 77-75, on Saturday at Alexander Gym.

The loss moved IC to 6-3 overall and 1-2 in league play while the Vikings improved to 4-6 and 2-2.

The Blueboys came out of the gates strong and forged a 30-21 lead at halftime. IC continued to increase its lead in the early stages of the second period, growing its advantage to as much as 19 on two occasions, the last coming with 11:43 to go and the Blueboys up 52-33.

The Vikings then began their comeback and finally tied the contest on a Casey Schoenecker layup with two seconds to play, sending the game into overtime.

The first overtime saw Lawrence quickly jump out to a five-point lead before the Blueboys rallied back. Josh Harris nailed a jumper with 27 seconds left to complete the comeback and send the contest into another extra frame.

In the second overtime, the teams stayed close with IC leading early by two points on two occasions, but a Landon Key jumper and a Nicholas Gouriotis free throw proved to be the difference. The Blueboys had the ball for the final possession but didn't convert.

Buzz Ritzel led IC with 20 points and nine rebounds. Seth Doss had 14 points and 12 boards while e Javonte McKenzie added 11 points to go along with his eight rebounds. Harris also had 10 points.

Ritzel now has 997 career points while Harris sits at 961 in their quest to join the 1,000 career-point club at IC.

The Blueboys will take a break from Midwest Conference action and travel to San Antonio, Texas, on Friday. They will face Trinity University of Texas at 4:00 p.m.
